On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, a Boeing 777 carrying 239 people, disappeared while flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing Capital International Airport. The aircraft's last known position was over the South China Sea, about 40 minutes after takeoff when it deviated from its planned flight path and ceased communications.
After losing contact, military radar tracked the aircraft turning westward, crossing the Malay Peninsula and the Andaman Sea. Satellite data suggested the plane continued flying for several more hours, following a southern trajectory that ended somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean.

Diego Garcia
Naval Support Facility (NSF) Diego Garcia is a base operated by the US Navy and Space Force, but is technically on British territory as it’s part of BIOT under British sovereignty. The population consists of several thousand U.S. military personnel, third-country laborers (from the Philippines, Mauritius and Sri Lanka), and a few British administrators. The base serves as:
A naval "prepositioning" port A "bomber forward operating location" (used for US missions against Iraq and Afghanistan from 1990-2006) A ground station for hydro-acoustic, electronic, and satellite surveillance A facility that can accommodate nuclear-powered submarines and warships
