Mentorship

Mentorship is incredibly important to me. I’ve benefitted from some really great mentors and I enjoy paying it forward.
With that in mind, feel free to reach out. You can book time via my if you’d like to chat. (Note: this isn’t an invitation to salespeople to ‘reach out’ to learn about my experience to have an in to sell me things).
If you’re looking for a few things to chat about, we can discuss:
What functional areas of People Ops / Talent look like and what career path you’re interested in
How to ‘upskill’ in HR (certification exams, resources, etc.)
How to build effective relationships with managers, leadership
Judgement-free questions: some HR concepts can be tough. I’m happy to help explain (where I can) how different things work (ex. immigration, stock admin, benefits, etc).
Helping to chat through a difficult issue / being a sounding board.

To be clear, I don’t charge anything for these conversations. But, in turn, I ask three things:
Try not to reschedule last minute: I get it, things come up. Though if you can’t make it, try to let me know as far in advance as you can.
Gather thoughts ahead of time: it makes for a much more meaningful conversation.
Pay it forward: whenever you can, share your knowledge and be willing to learn from others.

Other resources

: one of LinkedIn’s free-and-valuable-but-relatively-unknown features is their Career Advice tool. Great way to reach out to industry professionals.
: for other SHRM/HR organizations, I think the San Jose State University SHRM chapter has developed a great model for a mentorship program. (I’ve been a mentor 3x through their program). Would recommend it to others seeking a model.
: this is a great article on building an effective mentor relationship.
