Salary Surveys / Planning
I’ve written an
extensive guide on picking and implementing salary surveys here
. Check it out!
On Free(mium sources): many of these data sources are based on user reported data or are public surveys that don’t give a lot of granular information.
This comment on LinkedIn
captured it perfectly: “free comp data always comes with a "shadow" price. which most of the time is accuracy.”
My recommendation is to defer to subscription/account based services but to refer to these for general grounding.

For context on surveys,
this was a really good post
about bias within different HR circles on given comp surveys. It’s good to get to know what surveys are commonly used by your peer group of companies.
