USA 250

You’ll be asked to write a post-card to an American you admire (from any time in history) and then complete a few questions about your response. We’ll also ask a few additional questions about you. This should take about 10-15 minutes for you to complete.
Dear Bucky,
Your legacy thrives in ways that might astonish even your most optimistic projections. I will share some aspects of what I see around me, today in America.
Synergetics pulses now through cognitive science communities, where researchers model cognition as a scale-free interplay of prediction and action, echoing your “whole systems” philosophy. Meanwhile, Tensegrity has transcended architecture: biologists now recognize it in cellular cytoskeletons, and roboticists build adaptive machines which embody that “unity is plural and at minimum two”. Decentralized collectives create algorithms with your geodesic logic, creating open-source alternatives to monopolistic platforms. Artists, too, wield your tools: abstract tensegrity sculptures double as solar harvesters, blurring your lines between form and function.
The World Game is applied digitally, daily. Open-source platforms like integrate real-time ecological and economic data, enabling collaborative simulations of post-scarcity economies. These tools operationalize your Critical Path thinking and Anticipatory Design Science, prioritizing renewable energy networks and circular production systems that align with your livingry ethos. Regenerative movements deploy your Dymaxion maps to visualize watershed restoration projects, proving that “doing more with less”.
We visit your Chronofile archive at Stanford University, and have various meeting groups related to your work. Synergetics, tensegrity, and the World Game are no longer abstract concepts—they’ve become living frameworks guiding open-source communities, regenerative design, and cutting-edge cognitive science.
America continues as a global trimtab — with all the complexities this entails. Grunch of Giants feels eerily prescient. The hour is late, and FINCAP’s progress has been devastating.
USA OS continues to be developed — reflecting that, as Kirby Urner wrote, “People with the power to challenge (even while staffing) these goliaths form one global network, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. USA iconography and the republican ideals for which it stands carries over into cyberspace for use by the pioneers of a newly democratic operating system -- or call it USA OS.”. For me, this is akin to “No More Secondhand Patriotism”.
You once wrote, “We are called to be architects of the future, not its victims.”.
Keep me posted from where/whenever you are; I will do the same.
Omni-Gratefully,
DAF
