Uploader FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the app?

Soft reset

A soft reset is simply stopping and starting the app.
Soft resets can be helpful to reset the upload state of any file that has not fully completed upload.

Hard reset

A hard reset is an option in the file menu ‘Clear Site Data, Keep Files’.

This makes Uploader ‘forget’ everything though your files are actually still where they landed in your root folder if you previously imported them.
You will need to fetch again to remind Uploader of the state of your current assigned tasking.
You will need to import again though, if you previously imported, you can now just ‘Import from file system’ if you like.

A hard reset is helpful to sync Uploader with our central database.

Clean install (last resort)

For reasons not understood, user data can get corrupted to the point of even being able to run the app. In that case, we recommend the "nuclear option" which is to not just reinstall, but reinstall AFTER removing all user data by deleting the 'pilot-uploader' app folder which can generally be found: WIndows: <username>\AppData\Roaming\pilot-uploader Mac: <username>/Library/Application Support/pilot-uploader If you don't see it here, attempt to do a search after changing visibility settings in your OS file explorer to 'show hidden files/folders'. Now reinstall fresh from: (Windows) (Mac)

Why is my site or mission not appearing?

You may be logged in with a different email than the pilot profile with the tasking. If you have more than one pilot profile, try logging out, then back in with the other profile.
You may not have been added to the Site Inspection or Capture Group.
The mission may not be in a fetchable status or another pilot may have initiated upload.

Why is my upload stuck ‘finishing up’?

This indicates there is at least one file remaining and it may be having issues. You can investigate by clicking on that row in Upload Manger to open the upload detail pane showing individual file statuses, scrolling down to inspect. You can reset this file individually by clicking the button to reset file upload.
If that doesn’t resolve it, you can do a ‘soft reset’ (see above) to restart the upload of these remaining files.

Why is Uploader complaining about a missing directory that I can see in my OS explorer?

This can indicate Uploader has lost ‘read’ permissions on that location. If this is the case, you can:
Restart the app, this time with right-click ‘Run as Administrator’
Choose a new root directory in Settings, preferably in your Downloads folder. This will cause Uploader to reproduce the directory structure, transfer files, and regain its permission to read folder(s).

‘Fast forwarding’ after a crash

If you need to start over at any point during a long upload, you have two options:
1. Simply restart Uploader - it will pick up where it left off.
2. Complete a hard reset (see above) and start all over. With this option, it will initially appear that you begin with zero progress, but Uploader will ‘fast forward’ through any files it discovers are already in the cloud until finally it gets to where you really left off.
