Our God is God of Order. Therefore, He expects His work to be done in an orderly manner and expects His children to follow this order. These guidelines are not meant to make the Ministry Legalistic or too formal, but rather this is intended to avoid confusion and instill discipline in each one of us.
I. RULES AND REGULATIONS 🤝
A. Membership Status
A new member will undergo a formal application. He or she will undergo a panel interview with the Senior pastor and Music Coordinator. He or she must be BAPTIZED.
A new member will undergo a three month probationary period during which time, he or she will subjected to observation by an assigned committee as to performance, attendance and attitude.
During the three month probationary period, he or she will not be allowed to sing with the Praise and worship team during worship services.
Towards the end of the three month probationary period, the new member will be formally notified as to whether he or she is permanently considered into the ministry or otherwise.
📌 Note:
Understand that each of the members are there to guide people into prayer, not to stand in the spotlight. Each individual should act accordingly.
Understand that every task is to draw people to Jesus and the prayer meeting is a way of doing so. This will help keep every single person who attends in mind and avoid doing things that might put others off and keep from returning.
Understand that the best way to lead people into prayer is by praying oneself, rather than trying to make others pray.
Understand that each individual needs to be in a state of grace when leading God’s children into worship, so if an individual is struggling with sin and failing repeatedly, please do not accept the role of prayer leader.
Understand that a worship leader has to have a life of consistent and committed worship.
B. Qualifications
Spiritual maturity - As stated, this is a leadership-type ministry and, hence, is ordinarily not a place for new or immature Christians.
Musical expertise- The musicians and vocalists need to be skilled enough to follow a service which is "led by the Spirit of God." These skills should be used only for God and not for the world. (We cannot serve two masters - Matthew 6:24)
Time commitment - Practice sessions, Sunday and Saturday preparation and ministry are mandatory. In addition, there are seminars, special retreats and events, and more. Involvement in this ministry needs to take high priority in an individual’s life next to family and work.
Support of family- It is important that the family members are willing to accept the necessary time commitment of the praise and worship member.
Ability to flow with the team- Others are very gifted musicians and /or vocalists, but for one reason or another (vocal range, musical style, etc.) have trouble flowing with the team. These individuals are highly encouraged to share their musical gifts in other ways (special music, choir, small groups of similar interest, etc.) with the body
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP LEADERS👍
A. To the congregational pastor and congregation
Work closely with the congregational pastor in planning the worship activities for each service.
Seek the guidance of God in selecting songs and musical themes, in consultation with the congregational pastor by providing a well-balanced diet of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
Know and understand the message of the songs you are going to sung at least a week.
Be loyal to the congregational service assigned to discourage music ministers from transferring from one congregational service to another (unless requested to assist other services).
Prepare himself spiritually to lead in worship.
6. Introduce new songs that are easily followed by the congregation.
7. Limit introduction of new songs to four songs (2 for praise and 2 for worship) a month. Once introduced these songs should be sung and not to be completely forgotten.
8. If unable to attend a service, inform the person in-charge a day or two before service.
B. To the Band Leader
Work closely with the band leader during services and rehearsals.
Furnish the band leader a demonstration tape or musical arrangement of any song, could be a revision of song to be introduced; giving ample time for the band members at least a week to study the song.
Consider the band members heart of worship.
C. To the Back-Up Singers
Work closely with the back-up singers on harmonization.
Give ample time for the back-up singers to learn and memorize any new song to be introduced at the service.
Back-ups must be on the practice session. No Practice, No Sing.
D. All Members of the team
Weekly practice sessions - All team members are required to attend the weekly practice sessions. Musicians and singers are required to be in the church for scheduled rehearsals prior to the services for preparation and sound checks. If one will not be able to make a rehearsal or be there for the worship service, an individual needs to contact the Worship Pastor or the praise leader. Moreover, it is important that one should be at the mid-week and final rehearsals prior to the weekend worship. (Note: If one cannot join the mid-week and final rehearsals, an individual will not be allowed to join the team on the final worship - whether the team will be singing new or familiar songs.)
Other functions- The team will be expected to lead worship for seminars and other special retreats and meetings if needed.
Commitment to being spiritually prepared to minister - The spiritual preparation has a direct effect on the effectiveness as a worship and music ministry team. It is important to be ready not only to sing and play music but to worship the King and minister to His people.
Commitment to musical expertise – Each individual needs to work at the instrumental and / or vocal ability. This means a great deal of individual practice as well as playing with the team. Keep in mind that the team will only be as musically proficient as the individuals that make it up.
Commitment to growing spiritually - This too is as important on an individual basis as it is with the team. As a leadership ministry, individual needs to be committed to be more spiritually matured in Christ.
Commitment to "flowing" with the team - More than individual expertise, the musical goal needs to be the ability to "flow" with the team. Individuals need to look at the team as not just a collection of separate musicians but as a single unit with a single purpose. The heart attitude should not be to shine forth for its own technical skill but to use that skill to enhance the team as a whole.
Commitment to being a witness outside of church walls - Should at any time during an involvement in the music ministry and / or worship team one must feel that a personal life is not reflecting what it is about or what Christ would have, that an individual voluntarily step down so that His name and work would not be publicly mocked. Each should be an example everywhere.
