Is Reality Tv Good or Bad for People?
Since the 2000’s Reality TV has become increasingly popular, with it ranging from TV shows to videos on Youtube, with this increase in popularity people start to wonder whether or not reality tv is good or bad for them. And although some Reality TV shows can be educational the majority are harmful. And despite it often being entertaining there is often underlying qualities that create a negative experience causing ones self to have bad thoughts or make bad decisions. Reality TV, is negative because its often forced or fake, not true to life, and can be dangerous to young minds.
Most reality TV shows are forged in order to create attraction, for example in season 16 of The Bachelor, Jamie Otis was told by the producer to kiss Ben Flajnik before a rose ceremony. And although these shows often are able to hide these forgeries when it does slip out it hurts the audience making them feel unimportant and little. According to a study done by OnePoll in 2016 nearly 4 in 10 people watch reality tv, that’s almost half the population and with that many people as an audience these producers should keep in mind the audience and keep these shows real. Another case was in RuPaul’s drag race when soundbites were edited and taken out of context to create drama, while this may not hurt the audience this hurts the contestants making them feel hurt by the show creating an untrustworthy and unhealthy relationship with contestants and producers.
Reality TV is also often not true to life with situations being unrealistic and unabtanable for viewers. For example with the beauty standards that have been created on the show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” Kim Kardashian advertises the unabtainable beauty standard of fuller figure, which is often unabtainable without plastic surgery. Reality TV is also unrealistic in their actions, for example the show “Housewives of Beverly Hills” is extrodinarily unrealistic and shows an almost inachieveable life style for the average person. The ways that these TV shows are unrealistic leave people wishing their life had more to it and make people feel like they did something wrong or if they could be there if they had done something different but realistically those shows are one in a million chances and are impossible for most people.
Reality TV can also be dangerous.
Reality TV can be educational
In conclusion reality TV is no no bad don’t watch it.
