Love Outside

2/13/21
Feel my love through the closed walls and doors
I stand outside hopeful, holding
The basket of trinkets I imagine you open
Accept my love through blurring days
Of staying apart. I watch you
Catch your breath
Against the glass. Your smile
Condensing on a window
Spreading safely
To your eyes. Nostalgia, breath flowing in your chest
Your heart still beating steady thoughts
How long, when, what about
Days when we roam the carefree
Painted walls of home
But for now your love’s fond memory is all I hold
On Valentine’s weekend I want to remember all the times we felt the love, kindness, caring and generosity of someone leaving a gift on our doorstep.
