Thespys are an educational program run by the ITS (International Thespian Society). They allow theater students to submit short video-recorded entries of their performance or technical skills to receive expert feedback and possible awards. On the school level, thespys are a short video submission. Criteria for these videos can be found below.School-level submissions that receive a superior rating will continue on to Conference level, where they will be performed again for judges at ThesConStudents who receive superior ratings after Conference level auditions will get the opportunity to perform on the main stage at the closing performance of ThesCon!This is a huge deal and looks great on resumes and college applications!The Thespy Awards recognizes the following official categories of theatrical ability: Performance ThespysActing (Solo, Duet, and Group) Musical Theatre Performance (Solo, Duet, and Group) Musical Theatre Dance (Solo, Duet, and Group)Technical Thespys Costume Construction Costume Design Lighting Design Makeup Design Scenic Design Sound Design Stage Management Theatre MarketingEach troupe has a limited number of performance thespys we can submit, (6 to be exact), so you must audition first to be considered for final submission by making a self-tape and submitting it to Mrs. Coleman no later than November 24th through GroupMe or email.*This includes rules and restrictions on slating, timing, dress code, approved materials, and performance rights.Performance thespys must be recorded in an all-black environment, so if you are chosen to submit for our school, you will likely need to do your final recording in the black-box. see Mrs. Coleman to schedule a recording date and time
Because the Thespies and All State are such large commitments, only those who have previously attended Thescon can submit thespys at this time.
