Navigating Data Ethics – Perspectives Across Sectors

Time: 7 pm Expected #: +100 TBD ​Event Description (Internal): Informal > timely topic of interest, rep from each group speak • E.g. data ethics, AI ethics • Not panel, but "hot seat" - rep from each community to share their communities perspective on the hot topic, while introducing their community and a call to action • Realistically plan for 30 minutes; balance of time for networking • Who is target audience? • 1. Non data - outreach - round robin about our groups • 2. Data people - timely data topic: data ethics, AI ethics - speakers from each group give short from social good, industry specific, DataCon people • Data Society: Gen AI, LLM, • Social sector - a bit more generic; bias a big thing • Oil and Gas/Energy - climate and environment
• Anticipate at least 3 communities, as well as this will be Untapped Energy's Jan 2023 meetup ~100 people? request use of the main auditorium

This meeting offers direct access to cutting-edge discussions and emerging trends.
As of January 5 - final details for the special Data feature breakout "Navigating Data Ethics - Perspectives Across Sectors"! This event will take place on Monday January 15, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Central Library, followed by an after-party at Palomino.

For the special Data feature breakout, there are 5 Calgary data communities represented:
The YYC Data Society (including the Calgary AI meetup) (Mirna, Drew): speak to the Society, its marquee event the YYC DataCon, and possibly some details about the Calgary AI meetup
DAMA Calgary (Ron, Marc): its enterprise focus, data training, the DMBOK
Data for Good (Geoff): its upcoming 10 year anniversary and celebration; data ethics in non profit/ social sector > privacy, confidentiality,
PyYYC/PYdata (Rich, Graham): ethics during coding and back end > Graham co-organizer
Untapped Energy (Nicolas, Tim): Oil Gas
The planning team is confirming the earlier time that the space can be accessed, should you want to set up banners and other signage
The breakout is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and conclude by 7:45 p.m.:
Each group to spend 6-8 minutes sharing about their organization (vision, when does this group meet, types of events, etc). and then a perspective on Data Ethics - more focus on highlighting the organization
There will be a door prize draw: Data Ethics by Daragh O Brien and Katherine O’Keefe. Value $65 CAD with thanks to DAMA Calgary - Untapped Energy can run the door prize draw
Let's go with the order numbered above; @Mirna, could you kick things off with a welcoming message, highlighting any sponsors that we need to, and letting the audience know what to expect in the next 45 minutes? Then you can jump into the YYC Data Society/YYC DataCon.
Untapped Energy will conclude and then do the door prize draw right away: there will be a QR code for those in the room to use to enter their name and contact detail - we'll then run a randomizer Wheel of Names to determine the winner.
