“Iye” Means mother in Bini language which is spoken by the Edo tribe in Benin City, Nigeria. I am Edo and in my tribe we often use “Iye” when referring to an elderly woman. “Ko Iye” is a very famous greeting meaning “careful mother” or “take it easy mother”. I remember my grandma, how she’d sit outside on her rocking chair filtering bean seeds or separating melon seeds from the shaft, telling us stories of her childhood. She was caring and loving as well as solid with discipline. A woman of principle, she opened her heart and home to everyone. To my grandma, may your memory and the love you shared live forever. I love you
