Idea Brainstorming

Brainstorm project ideas!
We have been brainstorming on many ideas since August 2021. Some ideas are great but we found that they have already been implemented ("prior art" exists). Others are also great but are more policy related to traffic and less "innovation" ideas. Each week since August, we have spent a few minutes iterating these ideas -- debating, discussing, brainstorming. Here is a record of all the wonderful times we spent on this project.

Safe Package Delivery with AR
Create an Augmented Reality app that reads a special code on a package to activate an AR experience where the delivery person can see 3D visual directions from the homeowner on where to safely store a package away from public eyes.

An amazon package box
You could order a box specifically for your packages. When you order a package you could get a qr code that matches the package on your phone, and when the amazon driver needs to open the box to put the package in, they just scan the qr code that is on the box, and the owner can retrieve it by also scanning the code from their phone and receive their package.
Emma Singel

No QR code or delivery specific code system exists yet. There is prior art here.
3
Safer activation system
Public activation systems such as traffic light buttons are unsanitary because they are touched by many people, which could spread COVID and other illnesses. Instead, it would have a sensor to detect people waiting to cross. It would differentiate people waiting to cross and those walking by through machine learning.
Theodore Mui
3
ML based way to activate cross traffic lights.
4
Package Passageway
A separate highway/road for postal service vehicles to travel on, so packages can be delivered more quickly and efficiently by reducing traffic for such vehicles.

We are worried about feasibility for crowded cities. Policy issue and not about tech.
5
AR Package Delivery
Drivers have access to an AR display for the house being delivered to. The homeowners shares an AR view for how to deliver a package.
Theodore Mui

6
Traffic App
An app on your phone shared by everyone. User enters destination and preferred arrival time. App calculates ideal leave time for minimal traffic.
Theodore Mui
4
Prior art exists in Google Maps. Already invented.
7
Final Mile Zipline Transport
Create a central distribution hub for each local community, from which distribution of packages is performed with safe and calibrated ziplines.
Alex Mui

8
Sphere Wheels
A magnetic wheel for cars to stabilize the car so that they can turn around 360 degrees.

9
Solar Powered Cars
Cars with solar panels on their roofs, that collect solar energy to operate. Has been attempted before, but can be improvised on.
GS
10
Designated Speed Lanes
Lanes marked by how fast the driver wishes to go. This makes more organized and efficient lanes, instead of having different drivers all stuck in traffic.
GS

A sensor for the front of your car
Sometimes there are children, animals, or people in front of your car that you can not see. There could be a sensor created for the front of the car so that you do not run over things in front of your car that you may not be able to see.
Emma Singel
12
More places for bicycles to “park”
Some people like to ride their bikes everywhere, but often there is not parking for bicycles in regular places such as the grocery store. So there could be more parking for bikes. (AKA more bike racks)
Emma Singel
13
Driving App For Night
An app for when you are driving at night. The app tells you if there is a person or biker near your current location and alerts you if you are close to running into them. Pedestrians and bikers also have the app on their phone which notifies them if a car is near.
Sarah Chang
14
Delivery Trucks for Fragile Packages
Separate delivery trucks for more fragile packages. These delivery trucks have more protection for the packages and specialize in making sure the items inside don’t break.
Sarah Chang
15
Alternative Method for Keys
An app that allows you to open car and house doors through it. If you loose your keys, you can use this open as an alternative method to get in.
Sarah Chang
16
Sustainable Buses
Buses and other forms of public transport cause traffic congestion and harm the environment. A solution to this are sustainable buses. They are electric so that they help the environment and are elevated on a monorail track so that it doesn’t cause traffic congestion.
Theodore Mui
17
Ground Level Traffic Lights
Many pedestrians get hit by cars while texting or looking at their phones. The street could light up green, yellow, or red based on whether it is safe to cross or not.
Theodore Mui
18
Under water roads
Packages can be transported on a underwater road faster. And packages can get transported to shops or houses.
Jackson Mao
19
Electric Planes
Tesla of the sky — electricity driven planes
Alex Mui

Car Designer
Use AR or VR to draw a car from scratch so as to facilitate the car design process.

21
Proximitor
While one is waiting, create an app to share how far an uber or tax is from where the passenger is waiting.
Sarah Chang

22
Map with future traffic
Create AR diagrams on a map app.
GS

23
AR Headset for Transportation
An AR headset with ability to overlay AR figures about local transportations.
A

24
AR Heads up display
A transparent display with overlaid AR messages or figures to give warning to drivers or to enhance their vision
Phil Mui
25
Sticky Tyres
Invent better treads for tires so that they stick to the ground better.
A
26
Drop off Cars
Self driving cars that drop you off at a certain location that you want it to and drive back.
Theodore Mui
27
The slar
When it is snowing, switch the car tires to gigantic ice skate blades with treads at the bottom that come out once in a while to push the slar forward.
Alex Mui
28
A sensor for cars being broken into
A common way that cars are being broken into is from the windows. The thieves can easily break the glass. There could be an added sensor that senses when the glass is broken, and it could set off a loud alarm noise. (Or we could just try and install much stronger glass into car windows)
Emma Singel
29
Emergency Fuel Compartment or Extra Battery
A small storage container that holds gas/a nozzle of electricity depending on the type of car. When a car runs out of gas or electricity suddenly, the driver can use these emergency rations to continue onwards to a fueling location.
GS
30
App for Unsafe Roads
App that tells delivery drivers which roads are bumpy/hilly and provides them with a better/smoother route to their destination
Sarah Chang
31
Parking GPS
The Parking GPS is an app on your phone that uses API technology to tell you where open parking spaces are.
Theodore Mui

Stronger tires with higher tolerance to nails and glass.
These tires would have stronger materials as well as a toolkit that has a certain type of sturdy tape that can patch holes in tires and punctures. Or extra tires that are not pre pumped, to put in the truck of the car with a built in compartment to stack more tires.
Jackson Mao
33
Increased safety inside and outside airplanes
If an airplane is in a crash, cushions outside of the plane would puff out. Inside the airplane, when it is flying really low, the airplane will fly by itself to its target destination.
Alex Mui

Lights that go off with parking
There is a light pole next to each parking spot, when you park there you press a button connected to it, and the light at the top turns red, when you leave you press it again and it turns green. Then people looking for parking can just look for the green light and go towards there.
Emma Singel

Renewable energy sources all in one place
Solar panels, wind turbines, and water dams in one place. This will help people use more renewable energy. But there will be more solar panels than wind turbines, and more wind turbines than water dams because dams like the Hoover Dam cost lots of money to build. Wind turbines are cheaper than those and solar panels are cheaper than wind turbines. We can also make biofuels in those places where there are solar panels, wind turbines, and water dams. This will help reduce the use of fossil fuels as our main source of energy, which is nonrenewable and is bad for our environment.-
