Notes
John will remind the nodes about submitting news in the last week of every month.
John has encouraged the nodes to participate in the conference.
ECMI bi-annual conference 29 June–3 July in Kaunas, Lithuania.
We’re waiting for the approval of the proposal.
We aim for a scientific presentation. We should also mention our plans for study groups.
UNZA has confirmed that they will host the school.
The local organising team till be: Mervis Kikonko (Chair), Isac Tembo, Mubanga Lombe, Stanley Jere.
Proposed topics so far:
Modelling substance abuse in Southern Africa (Edward Lungu) – Proposed by UNZA
The Mathematics Behind Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – Proposed by UDSM
Topological Data Analysis (TDA) and Machine Learning for Autonomous Navigation (Wojciech Chachólski) – Proposed by UoN. Drone-related mathematics – Proposed by Matti
Uncertainty quantification – Proposed by Matti
We picked proposal 3. Bengt Ove will communicate with James Katende.
Alex is working on a table for the database.
We’ll discuss the strategy next week. This will take the entire meeting.
We shall postpone the discussion about a German member.
Bengt Ove hasn’t suggested a Zoom meeting with Michael at Ghent yet. We could present the CoREs and CoRE-Math at the meeting.
Stellenbosch has submitted a commitment letter. John will respond and communicate with ARUA and The Guild. This was not done yet.
We’ll arrange a meeting after 10 February, including a presentation and discussion. The meeting could take place in the week 16–19 February. Barbara and Bengt Ove will prepare the meeting. Alex and John will call for a meeting.
We’ll follow up on actuarial mathematics with the presenter at the symposium at AAU, 28–30 December 2025.
John will contact Abdul in the USA about this and CoRE-Math in general.
