Describe the user experience of the VR platform, including ease of use, intuitiveness, and accessibility.
Daniel’s notes
It’s nice having very granular controls made possible with quest controllers
The interface is largely intuitive
Hover states effectively explain the more nebulous controls
Host actions are a critical settings page
Draw inspiration from this as well as zoom and other meeting platforms
The option of tablet or fixed screen controls is nice
The fixed screen takes up a lot of the players real-estate
Engage is both a presenter and creator’s space
Shannon’s notes
Controllers allow an easy interaction with the VR Platform
There are many avenues and options for a user to try, but Engage's menus and tools are visually appealing and well-organized, making it easy for users to find what they need
Users are able to both start and join a session, as well as simply look at events
Events are organized into Public, Hosting, Attending, and Interested
There are hover states (on some buttons) that explain what a button navigates to
The button corresponding to the current page is highlighted to indicate its active state
There is an option to view the menu as a fixed display hovering in front of you, or a tablet attached to your arm
Interaction with the tablet seems to be limited. I was not able to push buttons until it switched to the fixed display
The menu is only accessible after leaving the main hub
Interaction Design
Analyze the interaction design of the VR platform, including its use of animations, transitions, and feedback.
Daniel’s notes
Presenting and manipulating models
It is nice to have control over location and scale of the object
The gizmo to rotate an object is not intuitive
The 3D models can have animations embedded
Shannon’s notes
The 3D models are great quality and are adjustable
Some models already have embedded animations
The ability to change and adjust the models are not intuitive
The transition to and from different spaces is very visually appealing
The state change that occurs when hovering over buttons provides effective feedback regarding the currently selected option
There are moving aspects in many of the locations
The location “Creative Plaza” has two platforms facing each other (ground facing sky) that users can teleport between
The teleportation is a good transition
Visual Design
Analyze the visual design of the VR platform, including its color scheme, typography, and use of imagery.
Daniel’s notes
The dark color scheme looks good
The icons are cohesive but not very futuristic
The icons are also hard to understand without engaging in the hover state because there are so many of them and their function is so niche
The spaces were fairly well done from a 3D modeling standpoint
Text and graphics on signs and posters are not clear
Shannon’s notes
Color scheme:
Overall the color scheme is incredibly inviting and engaging
Many environments utilize a lot of green and blue (almost like an artificial outdoors)
All of the locations are bright and inviting (even the classroom)
Typography:
On the main menu, the text is very readable and consistent throughout
White and blue font is used the most. Green is used sparingly.
When navigating to other locations, signs (with text) are incredibly blurry and hard to read
Imagery:
The icons are clear and good quality
The models that make up the environments are great
Posters and images that are used to decorate spaces are blurry
Technology
Analyze the technology used by the VR platform, including its performance, stability, and compatibility.
Daniel’s notes
Supports hardware from: Oculus, Meta, Vive, Pico and others
Having the oculus as a base allows very granular controls that may not be possible in IC
Shannon’s notes

Branding options
Overall Strengths
Daniel’s notes
Nice to have a browser/video support to share extracurricular material
Polling feature is useful
Works across many devices
Helpful hover states
Shannon’s notes
There are many avenues for users to either attend or host a meeting
There is great features such as polling and note-taking
The UI is minimal which allows users to focus on the environment around them
Hover states allow for the use of icons, which helps limit clutter and a big use of text
Overall Weaknesses
Daniel’s notes
I could not figure out how to rotate the 3D object which I feel is important (found it: it is an unintuitive gizmo)
There are a lot of controls which may take some extra onboarding effort
I feel like there should be easier ways to distribute models to the class
Shannon’s notes
Though it has a strong UI foundation, many of its features are not intuitive
Some buttons when using the 3D object don’t work well
There are a lot of features presented at once, which may overwhelm users
