The Objective
The Sociocratic Performance Review process focuses on improving not only the performance and function of the person being assessed, but also that of the organization he/she represents.
The Purpose/meaning of the Exercise
In theory, the candidate asks to be evaluated with a Performance Review, because he/she wants to improve in the following areas: how he/she handles responsibilities, functions in a team, and contributes to the organization as a whole. The candidate engages in a series of Sociocratic supervision meetings, which supports his/her growth and performance throughout the year. Since this assessment is a learning process for both the individual and the collective, the Performance Review is seen as more of a celebration than a traditional evaluation. For this reason, the Review generally takes place around the anniversary of the candidate’s joining the organization.
The Participants
Other members who work in close contact with the candidate (A) also take part in the Performance Review, as is shown in the Process presented on the previous page and described in greater detail below.
Advantages of the Sociocratic Peerformance Review
The Sociocratic Performance Review is a management tool that focuses on maintaining the organization’s social, commercial and financial health. This form of Performance Review has proven to:
Reduce the usual resistance to having one’s performance evaluated Strengthen a sense of belonging and team spirit Create a clear link between individual and team performance Encourage an organizational culture based on measuring and on-going improvement Encourage cooperation in reaching objectives Create an environment conducive to harmony and growth for the members within the organization.
