Angels Nest Southern Africa (ANSA)
Strategic Planning Workshop Summary
Date: 06-08 August 2025
Facilitator: Ms Nomvula Dhlamini
Duration: 09:00 - 16:00
🎯 Purpose of the Workshop
The purpose of this workshop was to develop a clear and actionable strategic roadmap for ANSA that supports its long-term sustainability and expansion goals. The workshop focused on three core areas:
Securing sustainable funding streams Building a permanent, skilled core staff Acquiring and managing physical infrastructure such as women’s centres, community hubs, and operational offices 🌍 Strategic Objectives
Objective 1: Secure Sustainable Funding Streams
Participants agreed that ANSA must transition from project-based or ad-hoc funding to sustainable, long-term funding arrangements. Strategies include building partnerships with corporate sponsors, philanthropic organizations, and international donors. ANSA will launch an annual donor campaign, apply for multi-year grants, and host fundraising events. Donor retention will be prioritized through regular reporting and engagement.
Objective 2: Build a Permanent, Skilled Core Team
The workshop emphasized that skilled human capital is essential for long-term impact. ANSA will recruit five full-time core staff members covering fundraising, program management, HR, operations, and communications. A skills audit will be conducted to identify internal gaps, and professional development pathways will be introduced to ensure retention and upskilling.
Objective 3: Establish ANSA-Owned Physical Infrastructure
ANSA aims to establish its own women’s centres, community hubs, and offices starting in three pilot locations. This requires feasibility studies, local consultations, land or property acquisition, and construction/renovation. These spaces will offer integrated support services, training rooms, safe spaces for women, and administrative offices.
📅 Implementation Timeline
Q4 2025:
Finalize funding strategy Complete staff and infrastructure audits Identify pilot communities Q1–Q2 2026:
Secure funding for permanent roles Conduct feasibility studies on locations Q3–Q4 2026:
Acquire or lease properties Begin design and preparation for infrastructure 2027:
Launch first women’s/community centre Expand programs and services from new hubs 📊 Monitoring Progress
Progress will be tracked through clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including:
Number of multi-year donor partnerships secured Number of permanent staff hired and retained Number of community centres operational Number of community members served Quarterly reviews will be conducted to assess progress, and an internal dashboard will track milestones.
⚠️ Expanded Risk Mitigation Strategies
Funding Risk: To avoid dependency on a few donors, ANSA will diversify its income sources and build a reserve fund covering at least six months of core operations.
Staffing Risk: To mitigate burnout and turnover, the organization will provide structured onboarding, mentorship, competitive salaries, and wellness programs.
Infrastructure Risk: Delays in construction and permitting will be addressed through early government engagement, phased rollouts, and pre-approved contractors.
Community Resistance: To ensure community buy-in, ANSA will hold local consultations and involve grassroots leadership in decision-making.
Regulatory Risk: Legal advisors will be engaged in each region to ensure compliance with national and municipal laws.
Data Security Risk: A data protection policy will be enforced, with POPIA-compliant systems and cloud-based secure storage.
Reputational Risk: Crisis communication protocols will be developed, and transparency with stakeholders will be prioritized.
