A bit about us...

Kalaa is Princeton University's premier Indian classical dance troupe, dedicated to celebrating the rich traditions of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, and more (learn more about the ). Founded in 2002, Kalaa experienced a brief hiatus in the 2010s and was revitalized in 2023 by a passionate group of students eager to share their art with the Princeton and greater New Jersey community. The name "Kalaa," derived from Sanskrit, means "art," reflecting our commitment to artistic expression and cultural heritage. With a vibrant ensemble of approximately 15 dancers, we host an annual performance showcasing the intricate rhythms, expressive storytelling, and spiritual depth within numerous Indian dance styles. Through our performances and community engagements, Kalaa aims to foster appreciation for Indian classical dance and contribute to the cultural tapestry of our university and beyond.
