Section 5.4: Advancing LGBTQ Health: Championing Inclusivity and Equity

At Champions for Health (CFH), we recognize the importance of ensuring equitable access to healthcare for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Our commitment to LGBTQ health extends beyond providing essential medical services; it encompasses advocacy, education, and proactive efforts to address unique health challenges within the LGBTQ community. In this section, we proudly share our initiatives, partnerships, and strategies aimed at promoting LGBTQ health, with a special focus on mitigating the impact of Monkeypox (MPX) infection rates in collaboration with key LGBTQ organizations and stakeholders. As champions of inclusivity and equity, we remain dedicated to the well-being of LGBTQ individuals, striving to create a healthier, more informed, and supportive community for all
Mitigating Monkeypox (MPX) in the LGBTQ Community
At Champions for Health (CFH), our commitment to public health extends to addressing unique health challenges within high-risk communities, including the LGBTQ community. Over the summer, we observed an increase in Monkeypox (MPX) infection rates, prompting us to take proactive steps to mitigate the spread of this infectious disease within this vulnerable population.
Strategic Partnerships: CFH recognizes the importance of collaboration, and in response to the MPX outbreak, we forged strategic partnerships with key organizations dedicated to LGBTQ health and advocacy. These partnerships include the San Diego LGBTQ Center and San Diego Pride, two influential entities in the LGBTQ community.
MPX Clinic at San Diego Pride Festival: As part of our efforts to raise awareness and provide accessible healthcare services, CFH hosted an MPX clinic during the San Diego Pride Festival weekend. This initiative allowed us to reach a wide audience within the LGBTQ community and offer vital education, screening, and vaccination services.
Community Engagement: Our longstanding commitment to LGBTQ health is evident through our active participation in LGBTQ health round tables and collaboratives in the Hillcrest area. We engage with local leaders, healthcare professionals, and advocates to address the unique healthcare needs of LGBTQ individuals.
CDPH Grant: Recognizing the significance of our work in MPX mitigation and LGBTQ health, CFH secured a grant from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This grant empowers us to expand our efforts in education, clinic coordination, and outreach specifically tailored to the LGBTQ community.
LGBTQ Clinic Coordinator: To enhance our focus on LGBTQ health and MPX activities, CFH has appointed an LGBTQ Clinic Coordinator. This dedicated individual is responsible for overseeing this sector, identifying additional strategic partners, and establishing clinic locations that cater to the LGBTQ community.
Our commitment to LGBTQ health remains unwavering, and we will continue to collaborate with community organizations, advocate for the health and well-being of LGBTQ individuals, and actively participate in initiatives that promote public health and reduce health disparities within this diverse and resilient community.
