Arches & Houses

Overview

Urban-Encalves---KV-overview.jpg
The key visual system was inspired by characteristics of the unique n’s of the logotype.

Construction

The n’s are made up of an outer arch and a shape that resembles a house inside it. For the manual, we will be calling these shapes as ‘houses.’ Included in the turnover kit are samples of arches and houses. These shapes need not be recreated and only be based on the files in the turnover kit to maintain consistency.

Stretched

Both the arches and houses can be stretched longer from their base, or the part of the shape without the corresponding curve or ‘roof’ of the house. Always maintain their proportions. Do not stretch these out when you expand the shapes.

Scale

Because they are simple shapes, you can increase their size and use them to fill up spaces that either create frames or masks for images or dividing larger layouts into smaller sections.

Uses

As markers

The arches and house can be used as markers or indicators both in brand materials and produced in the actual Enclaves space, behaving as bullet points or arrowheads.

As containers

Use the shapes to contain text and content in them. Similar to their function as markers, they can be used to label and note descriptions in sections.

As patterns

When repeated and patterned together, they form interesting shapes that resemble house details like laid brick floors or woven furniture. For patterns specifically, use the n of the icon as opposed to isolating either the arch or house as the combined shape is more unique to the brand.

As masks

Scaled up, both the arch and house can carry images and function as frames.

Be mindful of the awkward negative space formed by the edges of shapes, as these occupy a lot of excess space that is not advisable for images nor content.

Combining the arch & house

The n can be recreated subtly by using either the arch or house as a mask and the other as a whole shape. This treatment is good for covers as although it will occupy much space, it works well for more concise content with one focal image.

Misuse

Do not stretch or use them disproportionately. Always use the provided shapes and scale them neatly.

Specifically when paired with heavy information and content, do not make the patterns stand out too much that it distracts from the point of the material.

Although it is a key asset of the Urban Enclaves identity, be strategic in applying it. The shapes need not be applied to all images. Consider the intent of the content that needs to be applied & design according to what will best communicate the information.

This is considered misuse because it does use the Key Visual, but because it crops the top section of the photo, it prevents people from seeing the full image, when the goal of the brochure sample in this case is to give people a clear idea of what the development looks like.
