Lab 02- SeligSIM Setup

For this weeks lab, I focused on downloading a flight training software called SeligSim which is a realistic flight simulator that accomodates real life controllers that can be used to fly R/C aircraft and simulate real training. I used a controller called the Orqa FPV which was compliant with the software and what I used for lab. Overall, this lab demonstrated how effective this software is in recording simulation flight time and how useful this tool can be for getting familiar with aircraft controls and pilot skills.

Step 1: First I downloaded the SeligSim 2024.5 by clicking the Dropbox website and made sure the zip file was in shortcut so it could be easier to access.

Step 2: After downloading and installing the SeligSim software, I was brought to the Selig launcher page. This is where I was able to access the flight sim via Powertools. Click controller options and click save all options. After that step, i was all good to click launch

Step 3: After launching Selig sim, I was brought to the main screen and I noticed that my Orqa controller was already selected since I connected my controller to my PC with a USB beforehand. After connecting my controller, I started the calibration phase of the lab.

Step 4: Next step was to click edit controls for the transmitter. I was able to see how my controller reacted when I moved the joysticks up and down, left and right. After seeing these reactions, I then started editing and configuring my controller so that im comfortable with what controls have been reversed or configured.

Step 5: The final step was to choose a model aircraft to test your controls and get familiar with the software. I chose the Mig-15 as a test subject to feel out the controls. I did crash a few times but after practicing a bit more, i was able to get familiar with the controls.

Here is my flight video:

Overall, this lab helped me understand how important it is to use flight sims and configuring controllers so it may be used digitally. If I’m not able to fly physically outside, flying simulators like SeligSim is a vervy good alternaitve option and you still can get realisitic training and practice. I learned a lot about how to use this software and how to configure my Orqa controller to my liking so i may fly R/C models, and get real practice.
