September 2020

All the docs we can’t stop talking about.
The Docket is our version of the staff picks shelf at your local bookstore. Every month, we recommend published docs that we’ve personally read, loved, and copied.
This month we’re taking a cue from the shifting seasons. We’re embracing change to redesign the way we work and live. And we’re sourcing thoughtful examples from our community of makers.

From , Design: We’ve all heard about the numerous ways the world could be impacted by COVID-19. David effectively organizes these into a cataloged list of ideas, varying from “Remote work will accelerate” to “Pet boarding losing out to less travel.” Great for poignant discussion, readers are encouraged to add and vote for ideas in this interactive doc.

by , Estate Attorney at Wood Law

From , Solutions: Just one month ago my wife and I welcomed our first child into our family, and wow has our life changed (for the better)! Suddenly we’re making decisions that never crossed our minds before—including who could take care of our son in our absence. Stephen’s doc distilled the complex decision of choosing a legal guardian down to a simple process that made our lives as new parents just a little bit easier. Now we just need a doc that gives us a few extra hours of sleep...there’s a Coda Pack for that, right? 😄

From , Engineering: I'm the kind of person who wants to read more, but somehow ends the week with my reading time still tallied at zero. Rachel's doc helps you filter, sort, and track all the books you're reading, so you can track your progress. It even comes with a list of suggested reading for inspiration.

by , Director of Strategy and Implementation of SPARC

From
, Sales: I was intrigued when I first saw this doc’s title—what does it mean? And then the subtitle asks the same thing: “what exactly is this thing.” Well, it’s a toolkit for how to live life with purpose, complete with coaching tips, a goal setting tracker, and an introduction to the Japanese concept of ikigai. In short, it’s what a lot of us need in 2020, but it’s whimsical and personable in a way that doesn’t make it feel like “eating your productivity vegetables.” Highly recommend, would read again.

If “a problem well-stated is a problem half-solved” as philosopher John Dewey believed, consider this month’s popular docs a set of fast-tracks for tackling tough decisions.
