Learning Coach Role

Role Overview:

Mindjoy coaches...

Are curious about the world of education, innovation and technology;
Want to be a change-maker in the education space;
Enjoy learning new things and making cool stuff;
Enjoy challenges and developing your mind and practice;
Get excited by interactive, lively, hands-on STEAM learning;
Love working with kids (ages 8-14)
Are comfortable with educational technology, teaching online on Zoom or similar
Bonus: Is passionate about gaming / science / coding / robotics / engineering

You will:

Prepare for and facilitate online coding sessions (content provided by Mindjoy);
Support & monitor student progress and provide feedback on progress;
Encourage discussion, thinking for oneself and collaboration in your class;
Develop your coaching practice;
Use online tools like Google Workspace, Zoom & Replit
Inspire the next generation of innovators, creators and coders!

Learning Coach Scorecard:

Skilled pedagogue:
Has various tools and techniques that demonstrate confidence and skill in facilitating inquiry-based learning. Can facilitate Socratic discussions and model curiosity. Encourages and motivates learners in challenged based settings in ways that build competencies and content understanding.
Resourceful:
Can think on their feet, improvise, or develop a plan when things don't go as planned.
Organised and Reliable:
Punctual, detail orientated, and values being well prepared.
Curious:
Demonstrates an embedded understanding that learning can look different for different children. Is curious in understanding how things work, asks questions and understands how to act on curiosity.
Comfortable with technology:
Is comfortable using online tools such as Zoom for education combined with slides or a whiteboard feature. Is familiar with G-suite and shows enthusiasm in using learning software or video content.
Coachable:
Shows a willingness to learn new things or take on challenges. Is curious to find out more and willing to be wrong/ make mistakes. Demonstrates a solid understanding of themselves and can reflect with insight into their practice. Can model this for children.
Empathetic (Listening Skills):
Let children speak and seek to understand their viewpoints and encourage them to articulate their thinking and support them in making relevant connections.
Excellent Communication skills:
Speaks clearly and articulately without being overly verbose, provoke thought through question-asking and allowing time for thinking and responding. Can explain concepts in a variety of ways.
Energy / Presence:
Ability to connect well and engage, create a safe and comfortable space, has a sense of humour and encourages and models play.
