Subtitles of global keynote: How to edit translations

Happy Scribe is the tool we use for generating transcripts with timestamps (necessary to create subtitles in a video). It also generates machine-made translations for all languages we are using for WIAD. If you like, you can edit these translations to make them more accurate.

Each language has a separate link for editing (see list further down).

Notice: The title slide of the talk is not translated - you will have to add this manually. The text on other slides is almost always also spoken, i.e. translated, except for some legends.

A few difficulties I identified for the translation you might want to check (not complete):

The term “experiential graphic designer” that Leah uses as a job description can be hard to translate. (3 mentions around min 1:35 and following as well as one around 7:38).

The “3Cs” she uses (around min 9:08 and following) of course don’t translate well, but you might want to check the correctness of the terms in general - as well as all other (key) terms that appear on the slides in English.

For languages using different forms of address, the choice of the tool might not correspond with the way you are addressing your audience (in the beginning, but also later in the talk)

Leah’s grammar isn’t always perfect in English, so it might translate a bit oddly, too. (I edited out a few things, but not all.)

Punctuation can be a a problem.

When you play the video, you will hear the original spoken text and see it highlighted in blue in the written version. You can directly edit the text in the tool. The tool supports the editing process very nicely by going back in the video to the position where you made the change.
