User empathy is critical for any product. That includes ensuring you’re testing your user experience on devices that match your end users’. For example, it’s common that for product teams based in tech hubs are working on brand new Macbooks hooked up to a large HD external monitor running on Google Chrome. But more often than not, your end user likely isn’t accessing your product on the same high-end machines nor software. As part of our testing process, the person organizing the testathon reviews the key devices we want to test and assigns each person a device. This ensures we’re getting people to dogfood on a greater variety of devices and that we can catch things standard development tools could miss.
Before your testathon, add a row for each person attending and assign then a platform to test and if relevant, include specific areas you want them to test.
