Some things you should know about AppHelpers

Who is AppHelpers for?
Our program is geared toward students who lack the financial resources to pay for academic and college prep services. At this time, we do not have a household income requirement; however, we encourage those able to pay for college services to do so and leave spots for students without those capabilities. Teachers: If you have a student with financial need who you believe could benefit from our program, feel free to send an introductory email with the student CC’ed. This allows us to provide additional encouragement to register. Send to .

What if I need more help than what AppHelpers is able to provide?
We’re a no-cost volunteer program of advisors, musicians, and editors. We strive to provide students with individualized support. But our program might not be suitable for all students and families. If you want more one-on-one coaching with regular meetings, we encourage you to pursue a paid college-career coach.

How much support will I receive for each deliverable (e.g., resume, essays)?
In addition to workshops on learning to create deliverables, we generally do two rounds of feedback on resumes, repertoire lists, and essays. Here’s how it works: Students complete a draft of their resume after a workshop. Round-one feedback will usually include comments—e.g., Spell out PYSO or, When did you win this competition?, etc. The student will respond to the comments and finalize any details on their deliverable. Round-two feedback includes formatting and editing. The student reviews round-two feedback, accepts changes/modifications, and finalizes their deliverable for submission.

Do you meet with parents?
Parents and guardians are the backbone of success for students. We encourage parents to be involved in the college and application process with their children. Music AppHelpers is for students; we don’t hold separate meetings with parents or field requests outside the scope of student services outlined here. If your family wants support beyond what we can offer, we encourage you to seek other college conservatory program applications. Students need to drive their success in AppHelpers; we don't allow parents to attend sessions in the absence of their child.

Do you help with non-music-related applications, such as majoring in economics?
We help students apply to music schools and conservatories. Many of our students apply for double majors or dual degrees. We will review academic resumes and essays if a student applies to music and another discipline. However, our expertise is in music-school applications. Our program is not a good fit for high school music students who do not intend to pursue music at the college level. Other teams with expertise in academic applications offer many non-music college application support programs.

Why is AppHelpers free?
We run on donations and volunteers! We don’t have a flashy website or student management system, but we are skilled at what we do. We’ve helped hundreds of students become competent professionals, starting with their applications to music school. If you’d like to donate, please consider it. We’re a service of adhoc accelerators, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; all donations are tax-deductible. Email to donate or let us know about grant opportunities. We appreciate it.
