Electric fencing

We added electric fencing to the front and sides of Bagamoya in June 2024. We used and our contact person was Jason (+27 74 993 7230). Melani was the trustee who handled the admin and communication.

There are white lights on the electric fence, to indicate that the fence is on. This should periodically be checked to make sure that it is still in fact always active.
There is a battery that will provide power to the electric fence during load shedding for 6-8 hours. This should also be checked from time to time that it functions properly.
If the fence is triggered —which could happen by someone touching it or covering it with a blanket, but also potentially an animal, or even a large wet leaf— an alarm will go off. We don’t have armed response, so this is only a deterrent for a criminal and to alert (or wake) the residents. The alarm will go off for four minutes and then turn off by itself. If the alarm is turned off during activation (via tag or remote) it will disable the fence and it will need to be reset. A red light will remain lit at the main entrance gate to indicate that the alarm was triggered but not turned off (say, if nobody was around). Either way, the system will need to be reset after it has been triggered, in the trash room.
See the full video for how the unit works:
The following owners have tags or remotes:
Unit 2. Carlo & Dries: Remote.
Unit 6. Gavin & Balti: Remote.
Unit 8. Melani: Tag.
Unit 10. Werner & Charlotte: Tag.
During peak holidays, those with tags/remotes should consider leaving it in a lock box or with a neighbour who will be around. We can order more tags/remotes for R250 each from the installer.
The garden apartment, Unit 1, also has electric fencing on the garden wall, exclusive to that part of the building.
To do: make sure the new owner of Unit 1 knows how to disable her alarm and that there are other tenants or trustees that will be able to disable it (if we need to at all).
