Dashes and hyphens (— -)
Use an em dash (—) to offset an aside. Use a true em dash, not hyphens (- or --) or an en dash (–).

Use a hyphen (-) without spaces on either side to link words into a single phrase, or to indicate a span or range.

ℹ In order to type an em dash on Windows: press and hold Alt, type “0151” on the numpad, then release Alt.
ℹ In order to type an em dash on Mac: press Option + Shift + minus sign (-).
