Major scale - open position

Now we will be looking at the C major open position and learn how to play it. The tab’s below will guide you through the shape. Work on getting the clarity of the notes while playing the scale once you have that, start practicing with a metronome. Try to play the scale ascending and descending with alternate picking. The names of the notes in this scale are C D E F G A B C.
C D E F G A B C
We call this the open position because this particular shape of C major uses open strings.

Note recognition

Now we try to play a random pattern using the scale you learnt, but the idea now would be to recognise the names of the notes you are playing. This will help you in recognising the notes faster and more efficiently and will help you build melodies as well.
Try to say the names of the notes you are playing, while doing the exercise above. This will give you an idea on how you can create different melodies by jumbling up the notes together. Try to now jumble up the notes by yourself and say the names of the notes and create melodies.
Now we will try to do a few more variations of note recognition exercises which will give you a clarity on how you can go about the topic.
