As the Head Barista for our cafe, your primary responsibility is to ensure that our customers are provided with the highest quality coffee and espresso beverages. You will be in charge of managing our coffee bar, which includes preparing and serving drinks.

Job Scope

Daily Task

Your daily tasks will include:
Adhering to cafe barista SOP to maintain coffee standard.
Implementing beverage recipes and menus
Managing inventory and ordering supplies
Training and supervising baristas to ensure consistency in drink preparation and customer service
Ensuring that the coffee bar is clean, organised, and well-stocked at all times
Maintaining equipment and scheduling repairs as needed
Providing excellent customer service, including handling complaints and resolving issues
You will also be responsible for staying up-to-date on industry trends and innovations, attending coffee conferences, and participating in tastings and other events. You will be expected to maintain a high level of expertise and knowledge in all aspects of coffee and espresso preparation, including roasting, brewing, and latte art.
To succeed in this role, you should have a passion for coffee and a deep understanding of the craft of coffee making. You should also have excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. A background in hospitality or food service is preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement training programs for new baristas, including hands-on training and classroom-style instruction.
Assess new baristas' skills and knowledge and provide feedback on their performance.
Coordinate with the cafe's management team to ensure that training programs meet the needs of the cafe and its customers.
Stay up-to-date on the latest coffee trends, brewing techniques, and customer service best practices to continually improve the quality of training programs.
Maintain training materials and equipment to ensure they are up-to-date and in good working order.
Provide ongoing training and support to existing baristas to help them develop their skills and advance their careers.

Skills and Qualifications

Previous experience as a barista, preferably in a specialty coffee shop or cafe.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, including pour-over, espresso, and cold brew.
Understanding of coffee origins, roasting, and flavor profiles.
Familiarity with customer service best practices and the ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and requirements.

Evaluation

New baristas should be evaluated on their skills and knowledge in the following areas:
Coffee brewing techniques and quality.
Latte art and milk steaming.
Customer service and sales.
Cash handling and point-of-sale system operation.
Evaluation should be conducted on an ongoing basis, with regular check-ins and opportunities for feedback and improvement.
