Business Analysis Process

1. Observe (Gather Information)

Key Focus: Collect raw data and insights about business problems, processes, and stakeholder needs.
Implementation in Business Analysis:
Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, and surveys.
Analyze system logs, reports, and key business metrics.
Observe user behavior and workflows.
Use tools like process mapping and journey mapping to capture how things work today.
Leverage market trends, competitor analysis, and industry benchmarks.
Example: A BA working on an e-commerce checkout process would gather data on user drop-off rates, customer complaints, and system performance.

2. Orient (Analyze & Interpret)

Key Focus: Make sense of the information collected, identify patterns, and understand the problem in its broader context.
Implementation in Business Analysis:
Perform gap analysis between the current state and desired future state.
Use techniques like SWOT analysis, fishbone diagrams, or 5 Whys to diagnose root causes.
Identify business constraints, regulatory requirements, and risks.
Prioritize findings using impact analysis (e.g., MoSCoW, RICE framework).
Develop personas and user stories to contextualize insights.
Example: After observing checkout abandonment, the BA might analyze that the primary cause is a complicated payment process with too many steps.

3. Decide (Define the Best Course of Action)

4. Act (Implement & Measure)
