As someone who gets a little too excited about productivity software and finding new ways to streamline my work habits, I’ve learned that sometimes less is more. As my teams have grown over the years, I have struggled to keep a running tab on how everyone on my team is doing, whether they’re on track for their high level career goals, and remembering everything they have done over the past few months. Having separate docs and trackers for each individual you manage might work if you have a team of 5-10 people, but once you’re managing several teams, each with their own manager, you might struggle to keep track of everything happening at once.
The goal of this template is to provide you with 3 things:
An easy way to save an update about someone on your team A quick overview of how everyone on your team is doing today Quick access to a detailed view of a single person and all of their updates
Coda is a remarkably powerful tool that lets you customize data and information to suit whatever needs you have, but I tried to keep this template relatively simple and optimized for ease of use. The Team Overview is great for quickly looking at the team’s status or adding a new update about someone after gathering additional information. The Individual Tracker provides a reference on what someone has worked on to help you prepare for an in-depth career conversation, discussing real-time feedback, or writing a year-end performance review. This format is easily extensible for anyone who needs a more robust, shared tracker with views into updates from everyone working on a project or all employees who report to a given manager, which can be particularly useful if this is tracker is shared between managers in an organization.
