The Family Historian

14th November 2024
✏️Does your family have a HISTORIAN?
God required every male Jew to be in Jerusalem 3 times a year; on Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles. Reading the genealogy from Jesus to Adam in The Gospel of Luke 3:23-38 made me wonder who kept up with the names of those 77 ancestors all those years?
I am the historian for our family that just celebrated our 96th reunion. Our history goes back 10-12 generations.

My theory is the key to the historical achievement for the Messiah was their “family reunions” (Feasts of Israel); and the Levitical cities… like the one Prophet Jeremiah was born in. Before the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel were divided, there were 48 Levitical cities spread throughout the tribes. Priests and scribes were in those cities so they became administrative centers.
I imagine at reunions the records were compared and compiled for the royal or priestly archives. Administration is my calling and I’m not big on outings, or other extracurricular activities so I can be available most anytime during reunion.
The Bible details requirements for the Feasts of Israel, but it does not set the exact agenda for each moment of the day and night. This means, the record keepers could have setup their own get together.

Of course, updates to the extended family history can be done anytime of the year, but it seems good to setup a system that can last for generations. As a community service, I am happy to help with any style of record keeping that you would like to setup or even make suggestions based on the current way you do things.
My professional training is information technology and over the years I have been responsible for maintaining records for entities like a university founded in 1867; a community college system established in 1963 and even high performing entrepreneurs. BUT …your system does not have to be computer based. It just has to be a system that works for YOU. After all, the Israelites did their work for the genealogy of the King of Kings without one mouse click.

My system has backups and procedures to carry on long after I’m gone. Having a system in place can ensure updates are efficient and information is handy.
Can you imagine the research, collaboration and dedication that must have gone into producing the Gospel of Luke and Acts of The Apostles in the New Testament of the Bible? Luke wrote them and by profession he was a physician so surely he mingled with the in-the-know crowd, but writing a two-volume history of the church of Jesus Christ was probably not one of his original career goals.
The project of the thoughtful, observant man of science was to record, “all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day He was taken up…” Acts 1:1-2
Luke is the only gentile, or non-Jewish author of the New Testament. Therefore, it makes no difference what your day job is. What matters is your desire to help.
A family historian can be anyone with the patience and passion to serve their family in a role that was done by our Messiah’s family for thousand’s of years.
Be well. ❤️
