What we do
Schoolhouse.world is a platform that helps people get personalized academic help and tutor others––all for free. We currently offer tutoring in high school math and SAT prep, and aim to expand across more ages and topics soon.
Amid COVID-19, the ability to get personalized help and dig deep into problems has been the central struggle faced by teachers, parents and students during at-home schooling. This sense of urgency prompted Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, to find a solution by partnering with his college friend, Shishir Mehrotra, cofounder and CEO of Coda. Together, with a handful of volunteers, they created schoolhouse.world.
After running a closed pilot within Long Beach Unified District over the spring, schoolhouse.world first opened its doors to tutors and students from the public in June 2020. People from all over the world volunteered to tutor sessions; high school students, teachers, professionals, and PhDs alike. Over the summer, this diverse team of volunteers taught over 800 math sessions while working to develop effective systems to vet and train new tutors and
