Trail Life

Navigator Awards

Recruit

This joining Patch is given to the Navigator as he begins his Trail to the Freedom Award. It is suspended from a button on his uniform.

Traditions

1. Memorize and agree to live by the Trailman Oath. 2. Memorize the Trailman Motto. 3. Demonstrate the Trailman sign and describe when to use it. 4. Demonstrate the Trailman salute and describe when to use it. 5. Demonstrate the Trailman handshake. 6. Give your Patrol Leader's name, patrol name, and patrol yell 7. Present yourself to your Patrol Leader and either the Trailmaster or Advisor in a troop-approved uniform.

Citizenship

8. Memorize the Pledge of Allegiance. 9. Demonstrate properly folding the American flag.

Troop Involvement

10. Complete Trail Life Connect registration. 11. Since registering in Trail Life Connect, maintain a level of Troop meeting attendance acceptable to your Trailmaster or Advisor (typically 60% or better).

Review

12. Discuss Troop safety. 13. Discuss the Freedom Trail. 14. Successfully complete an Advancement Conference in uniform.

Ridgeline

Prerequisite Work

1. Must be a registered Navigator who has earned the Ready Trailman Rank.

Troop Involvement

2. Maintain a level of in-uniform Troop meeting attendance acceptable to your Trailmaster (typically 60% or better).

Worthy Life Award

3. Complete the Navigators Worthy Life Award.

Community/Area Project

4. Complete a community service project or multi-Troop Area event according to the standards in the Ridgeline Award Procedure Guide. NOTE: The Ready Trailman Rank must be earned before beginning work on the Ridgeline Award Area Event / Community Service Project.

Mark Your Progress

5. Successfully complete an Advancement Conference with your Trailmaster and Troopmaster in uniform. 6. Successfully complete a Ridgeline Award Board of Review in uniform.

Able Trailman

Prerequisite: Earn the Recruit Trailman Rank. #### This Patch and Medallion pair is awarded to the Navigator when he completes the requirements for Able Trailman. The patch is suspended from a button on his uniform and the medallion is affixed to his Troop Standard.

Prerequisite Work

1. Earn the Recruit Trailman Rank

Trail Badge Work

Earn a cumulative total of 6 Trail Badges including: 2. Any 4 Core Skills Trail Badges: Aquatics, Camping, Fire Ranger, First Aid, Our Flag, Outdoor Cooking, Ropework, Trail Skills, and Woods Tools. 3. Any 2 Trail Badges of your choice: remaining Core Skills Trail Badges, published Elective Trail Badges, or Design Your Own Badges. Adventurers may also choose from the True Freedom Trail Badges. NOTE: Some Elective Trail Badges are restricted and should only be earned by Adventurers.

Servant Service

4. Complete 15 hours of service for each year as a Navigator OR 20 hours for each year as an Adventurer.

Troop Involvement

5. Maintain a level of in-uniform Troop meeting attendance acceptable to your Trailmaster/Advisor (typically 60% or better). 6. Participate in at least 6 Troop activities, not including regular meetings, for each program year.

Review

7. Successfully complete an Advancement Conference in uniform. 8. Successfully complete a Board of Review in uniform.

Prerequisite: Earn the Able Trailman Rank. #### This Patch and Medallion pair is awarded to the Navigator when he completes the requirements for Ready Trailman. The patch is suspended from a button on his uniform. The medallion is affixed to his Troop Standard.

Trail Badge Work

Earn a cumulative total of 12 Trail Badges including: 2. All 9 Core Skills Trail Badges: Aquatics, Camping, Fire Ranger, First Aid, Our Flag, Outdoor Cooking, Ropework, Trail Skills, and Woods Tools. 3. Any 3 Trail Badges of your choice: published Elective Trail Badges or Design Your Own Badges. Adventurers may also choose from the True Freedom Trail Badges. Leadership

7. Since earning the Able Trailman Rank, complete one of the following leadership options: 7a. As a Navigator, serve as a Junior Patrol Leader or another Troop-approved leadership role for a minimum of six months. 7b. As an Adventurer, serve as a First Officer, Second Officer, Quartermaster, Patrol Leader, or another Troop-approved leadership role for a minimum of six months. 7c. At five Troop meetings or outings, demonstrate your leadership ability by planning and instructing a Woodlands Trail patrol in significant skills approved by your Trailmaster, Advisor, and the Woodlands Trail Ranger. 7d. At five Troop meetings or outings, demonstrate your leadership ability by planning and instructing a Navigators or Adventurers patrol in significant Trail Badge skills approved by your Trailmaster, Advisor, or Trail Guide.

Review

8. Successfully complete an Advancement Conference in uniform. 9. Successfully complete a Board of Review in uniform.

Navigator Service Star

Complete 15 hours of service. This silver Navigator Service Star goes on the Trailman's Standard.

Manhood Journey (6-8)

Complete 2 modules of the Manhood Journey program with your father or other male mentor.

The Manhood Journey participation patch is now available to order in the Trail Leader Store. It is not tied to the advancement system and should be ordered at checkout for all participants. However, for those Trailman that complete it should still be marked here for tracking purposes as eventually we will tie its completion to rank advancement requirements.

Worthy Life

When you order the award, be sure to order the adhesive crosses which are sold separately in packs of 10 in the store. You only need to ever order one Worthy Life Award per Trailmen even if they earn it at multiple levels. Working with an adult mentor who is approved by your parent or guardian and your Trailmaster, complete an individualized or group discipleship program with a minimum duration of three months. All meetings with your adult mentor should be attended by you along with one or more peers, a parent, or family member. A minimum of two adults should be present at each meeting. The program of at least three months includes regular meetings with your adult mentor for discussion and prayer and including the following three activities:

Devotional Activity

Complete one (1) of the following activities and discuss it with your mentor:

1. An age-appropriate Bible study program consisting of at least ten (10) one-hour sessions. 2. One (1) Elective Trail Badge from the Values Frontier. 3. At least two (2) modules of the Manhood Journey program with your father or other male mentor.

Discipleship Activity

Complete one (1) of the following activities and discuss it with your mentor:

1. Read a Christian book . 2. Participate in a Christian weekend retreat or mission trip. 3. Complete a service project using the Biblical principles or skills developed during your Devotional Activity.

Disciplines Activities

Complete three (3) of the following activities throughout your Devotional and Discipleship Activities:

1. Keep a journal of questions, principles, and thoughts. 2. Memorize and recite scriptures, prayers, hymns, creeds, or catechisms. 3. Keep a prayer journal. 4. Regularly attend services/mass at your local church. 5. Volunteer to serve with your local church/parish on an ongoing basis.

Demonstration Activity

1. Complete a final conference with your Trailmaster, Troop Chaplain, and mentor, explaining what you have experienced and learned and how you have achieved your pre-determined goals, tasks, and expectations.
