This scenario was part of my interview experience for the Sr. Digital PM role at Hugo & Cat, where I was asked to address the scenario and subsequent questions. I leveraged my skills in Coda to create this leave behind for the interview team.
I understand this prompt as an opportunity to get creative in explaining how I would approach evaluating and scoping new work - a core competency of a Senior Project Manager.
Scenario.
Agency X have a potential new client, a technology startup based in Shenzhen, China. They are working on a new product in the B2B space, and require a small website to be created which showcases the product in order to generate leads, as well as attracting potential investors and employees. As a new company they don’t have any online presence at this stage.
Agency X has been asked to create the site, which will target both Chinese and international audiences, using brand guidelines that the client has recently had created to influence the look and feel of the site. The client isn’t sure at this stage what content they have available, but have indicated they’d like to showcase the product to potential partners, as well as presenting their company in a positive light to investors and potential employees. They don’t have any technology preferences, and have told us they consider this a relatively short-term project as a full website will be needed in due course.
The client hasn’t given us a budget range for the project, but have said they require the new site to be launched within 6 weeks of agreeing the scope and costs — they are concerned about competitors beating them to market.
You have been asked to work on scoping and costing the project with the Client Director who took the initial brief, with a view to sending a Statement of Work to the client as soon as possible.
Tasks.
Describe how you’d go about scoping and costing this brief. Who would you involve from an agency to ensure you had a robust plan and budget?
Create a high-level project plan and structure of a SOW for this brief. What activities and resources do you think are needed to deliver the brief? What might key deliverables be?
What assumptions would you make in scoping this project?
What risks can you identify? How might you mitigate them?
What opportunities do you think might exist, based on the brief?
