AI Research Methods Exercise

Duration: 45 minutes
This exercise is designed to mirror real-world research collaboration, so come prepared to think out loud, structure ambiguity, and make pragmatic decisions under time constraints.
Tips:
Focus less on finding a “perfect” answer and more on clearly framing the problem, identifying the most critical uncertainties, and proposing a right-sized research approach that balances speed and rigor.
Be intentional about how (and why) you use AI, and communicate your reasoning, tradeoffs, and level of confidence throughout.
Treat the interviewer as a partner, make your assumptions explicit, and aim to deliver insights that are actionable and tied directly to the team’s decision.

Prior to the interview:
Please install and have access to an AI tool of your choice (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Go) and a word processing tool (e.g., Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Coda). You will need these tools to facilitate the discussion.
