🧾 SOP: Sourcing and Reselling Luxury or Discounted Items Online

🎯 Objective

To acquire free or heavily discounted luxury household items (e.g., furniture, art, appliances) from Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and other online platforms. VAs are responsible for sourcing, confirming pickup, estimating resale value, and listing items for sale. Admins approve purchases. All resale activity is logged and tracked.

🔍 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Search for High-Potential Listings

Platforms:
Craigslist (Free section, Furniture, Household)
Facebook Marketplace (filter by “Free” or < $100)
OfferUp, LetGo, Nextdoor, AptDeco, eBay Local
What to Look For:
Free or underpriced luxury items
Brands like: West Elm, CB2, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, Dyson, etc.
Categories: Sofas, dressers, dining tables, mirrors, framed art, kitchen appliances, TVs

Step 2: Research MSRP (Original Price)

Search Google or the brand’s official site for the same or similar item.
Note the brand name, model, and original price.
Compare it to the price offered on the platform.
Aim for:
Free items: original MSRP $200+
Paid items: at least 75% off MSRP

Step 3: Message the Seller

Use this template:
Hi! Is this still available? I can pick it up within [2–4 hours] today. Thanks!
If seller confirms item is available:
Screenshot confirmation
Save photo of item
Proceed to Step 4

Step 4: Submit for Admin Approval

Use internal form (via Coda or Slack shortcut). Include:
Item Name (ex: “West Elm Mid-Century Nightstand”)
Photo of the item
Screenshot of seller confirmation
Pickup address
Platform link (Craigslist, Facebook, etc.)
Original price found online
Current offer price (or free)
Recommended resale price
VA Notes: any damage, urgency, brand status
Pickup ETA (2–4 hours for priority, 12–24 hours standard)

Step 5: Admin Review

Admins check the #admin Slack channel or Coda dashboard.
Approve or reject
If approved, instruct VA to schedule pickup or dispatch runner

Step 6: Coordinate Pickup

If approved:
Schedule with driver or pickup resource
Confirm seller address and time
Mark “Item Acquired” in Slack #grandson-hq with:
✅ “CB2 glass coffee table” picked up in Williamsburg. Staging or resale.

Step 7: List for Resale

Post the item on the following platforms:
Facebook Marketplace (your profile or business page)
OfferUp
Craigslist (For Sale)
Instagram Stories (optional)
Use a description like:
Beautiful [Brand Name] [Item] – gently used, great condition. Originally $799, letting it go for $160. Must pick up in [Location].
