📄 Exercise 1: Site Analysis and Design Proposal Using Autodesk FORMA

📆 Issue Date: 18 July 2025 Hand-in Date: 1 August 2025 Duration: 2 Weeks

🌍 Scenario:

You are a junior designer at a local architecture firm that specializes in sustainable and context-sensitive design. The firm has been approached by a community group seeking help in redeveloping a local underutilized site. Your role is to conduct a comprehensive site analysis using Autodesk FORMA , interpret the environmental and contextual data, and present your findings in a clear and professional manner.
Your analysis will form the basis of the design team’s next steps, so accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail are essential.

🎯 Assignment Objective:

Using Autodesk FORMA , analyze a real-world site of your choice and produce a visual and written report that includes:
A geolocated 3D model of the site
Sun, microclimate, and shadow analysis
Contextual data
Design implications based on findings
You will be assessed on your ability to use Autodesk FORMA effectively, interpret environmental data, and reflect on how these findings influence early-stage architectural decisions.

📋 Tasks:

✅ Task 1: Site Selection and Setup (Individual)
Based on your studio work, identify a real-world site
Create a new project in Autodesk FORMA.
Set the location and import base map, terrain, and existing structures.
✅ Task 2: Environmental and Contextual Analysis
Conduct sun and shadow studies.
Run a wind flow analysis.
Import and display contextual layers (e.g., roads, buildings, vegetation) from the FORMA library.
✅ Task 3: Data Interpretation and Design Reflection
Identify opportunities and constraints (e.g., solar access, wind protection, privacy).
Reflect on how these findings influence building placement, orientation, and outdoor space-design.
Include sketches or diagrams to support your reflection.
✅ Task 4: Presentation and Submission
Prepare a visual presentation (A2 PDF).
Submit a written summary (1–2 pages) including:
Description of the site
Key findings from your analysis
How findings influence early design thinking

📝 Evidence to be submitted:

Autodesk FORMA Project File (shareable link with rizal.husin@iukl.edu.my)
Visual Presentation (PDF or PowerPoint/Google Slides)
Written Summary (1–2 pages, typed)
Introduction
Main body with analysis and interpretation
Conclusion
Initial Sketches or Diagrams based on your findings

Authentic Assessment Guidance:

You need to have at least 2 proposals to have a comparison
