Project Name:

Ipoh Transportation Museum

Project Objective:
To enhance the heritage quality of the old Ipoh town as a new attraction and local community’s economic generating to the area by revitalizing the overall circulation and public space layout of part of the Ipoh heritage Township.
Scenario:
Ipoh, a historical mining town in Perak, Malaysia, is in a state of despair. The town’s colonial-era heritage buildings, which are characteristic of the town, are at risk of being losing its charm to the youth. The client’s plan to transform the current Medan Kidd with into a new form of attraction is an attempt to save the town’s charm to all walk of life and generation. It is suggested that the current transportation hub to be transformed into a Transporation Museum in the heritage area yet preserve as much as possible the unique character of Ipoh.
Another identified issue is that the current placemaking and pedestrian path connecting the railway station to the riverfront need to be upgraded in order to enhance the image of the area.

Project Scope:
Revitalize the overall circulation and public space layout of the Township.
Design a new route that leads the users to the Ipoh Transportation Museum.
Enhance the heritage quality of the old town as a tourist attraction to the area.
Study the townscape of the Ipoh old Township to ensure that the revitalization plan is in harmony with the existing architecture and urban fabric.
