***NO SHOW CALL***
Hi, I’m looking for ________.
Awesome! This is ______ with Everlight Solar. I’m on the meeting you scheduled! Will you be joining by phone or computer?
IF they say they’re about to hop on: “Awesome, I’ll see you soon!”
IF they still haven’t joined after another 2 minutes: [Call Again]
IF they still haven’t joined after 15 minutes: [Follow Ghosting process]
IF they say they need to reschedule: “No worries! We have a lot of candidates right now so the hiring team will reach out to you if they are able to get you back on the schedule. You'll get an email with any details you need.”
IF they are late: “No worries! We’re out of time now. We have a lot of candidates so the hiring team will reach out to you if they are able to get you back on the schedule. You'll get an email with any details you need.”
IF they are having tech issues, you troubleshoot, and they are still insistent that their wifi doesn’t get any better: “No worries! So... at Everlight, it's actually really cool, all of our teams have a lot of interaction and they use Zoom every day, all the time, so everyone does need a strong Internet bandwidth to be considered for these positions. If your situation changes in the future please reach back out! We'd love to talk to you, we'll keep your information on file. Thank you again for your time today, and have a great rest of your day!”
IF they say they can’t find the link/deleted the email: “No worries! I’ll send a new link over to you now” [send link]
IF they say they found another opportunity: “Awesome, we’ll keep your information on file. Reach out if anything changes.” [Move to Dropped Screening]
IF they are not in a safe place to Screen: “Obviously, it’s not a good time. But no worries! We definitely want to make sure you’re safe. I’ll let the hiring team know it wasn’t a good time, and they’ll reach back out to you if they’re able to get you back on the schedule!”
Preamble
Hey __________, this is __________ with Everlight Solar, are we connected OK?
(turn your video on)
My video's gonna be off but I just wanted to say hi so you know I’m a real person, haha.
(Pause while they say hi.) Awesome... (turn video off)
Are we still connected OK?
(make sure they are clear in audio and their video is on, and that you are recording)
Perfect, is now still a good time to talk?
It’s been a crazy day, doing a LOT of interviews, give me a minute to pull up your information here... how’s your day been so far?
Small Talk (dig in, don’t overshare about yourself)...
We noticed that you applied for a couple of different positions! That’s awesome. We love seeing people who are open to opportunities and willing to jump in where needed! Today we're just getting to know you so we'll consider you for all of the roles you applied for!
I’ll introduce myself - I’m Luke, I lead the warehouse assistant teams. We have a few offices in a few states across the midwest and while home-base for me is in Madison, I jump around and travel between them.
Maybe to start us off ___________, explain why you're interested in this job?
Awesome. What’s the plan, you know where you want to be in a year, or 5 years, or are you in discovery mode?
- any ideas on how a role like this can prepare you or take you there? (something to sell the job with)
Find Their Why
Supervisor/ Values
Tell me about the best supervisor you've ever had - Who was it and why was it such a good experience? ...
What did you learn from them? ...
What did they value? If you had to choose a couple of things that were very apparent?
Best Day
Tell me about a typical good day at work, a day you really liked. (Really looking for what they love to do.)
What are the tasks of that day that made it such a good day?
**** Don’t let them get away with no answer. ****
Worst Day
I'm going to flip that question on its head and ask you to describe a typical bad day, what bores you.
What are the activities you get stuck on and annoyed with, tasks you wish you could delegate to someone else.
Find Their Values
Recognition
I'd love to hear about recognition you've received that was really meaningful and motivating for you.
Personality
What’s your best best friend like? Compare and contrast your personalities! How are they similar to and different from you? ...
Who would you say is - more talkative? more OCD? more competitive? more ambitious versus more content?
Chaos
One awesome thing about Everlight's culture, it’s a meritocracy. It’s all about what you do - the more you put in, the more you get out. We’re growing like crazy. The solar industry is the fastest growing industry in the world right now, and Everlight Solar is the fastest growing in the entire US. We never say that’s not my job.
Even though we’ve been around for years, we still have and love that start-up culture. Cause we’re building, and we’re never gonna stop.
Some people hear that and they get excited, and other people hear that and think “I don’t really like change.” Which bucket do you fall into?
Dig In
IF EXPERIENCED... How many homes have you installed or typically install in a month?
IF NOT... How many roofs have you been on?
...Even if it wasn’t professional, have you had any experience on a roof?
Are you scared of heights?
How comfortable are you with using tools?
We require all of our crew to crawl up in customers attics... do you ever get claustrophobic in spaces like that?
We do installs all year, including winter. Rain, sleet, snow, you name it. Have you had experience working in the elements, and if so, how did you handle it?
Have you ever worked at a place where you saw something that was unsafe? How did you handle it?
Safety is definitely one of our top priorities, and we want to make sure we have people on the team who will have each other's backs on the job-site.
Paths & Compensation
Home
I'd love to hear about your home life - you got 7 dogs? hermit? sports?... hobbies? (We want to know if their home life is conducive to the job - are there red-flags there? Can they work alone? Do they only have 1 job?)
Paths
On our construction team, there’s so much to do, there’s always a ton of tasks you could be involved with - we’re growing like crazy - and we’re looking for really dynamic people who can be helping out doing a lot of different things.
Everything from...
...working in the warehouse gathering materials for upcoming projects...
...to walking through customer’s homes and gathering and documenting measurements from their electrical system so our team can plan the install...
...to pulling wire and installing equipment...
...to climbing ladders and putting panels on a roof...
...We really expect you to do a lot of different stuff, are you willing to help out and jump in wherever we need ya?
Perfect. There’s so much to learn and so many ways to grow in the company, we really value that flexible attitude - so it’s important that we see that in you.
Compensation
I want to talk about compensation for this job. The listed salary for this position, and obviously this is something that could be different based on your experience, but the posted range is...
$20-25/ hour ... some of our construction jobs are also salaried at about the same, which looks like 35-45,000/ year. Does that sound fair?
IF they ask if there’s wiggle room in compensation: No worries! That's actually not something I'm a part of, but the hiring team will be aware and they can talk to you about that more.... Of course we want to make sure you’re able to get your rent paid - what number would you need to be at for this to be an option?
Next Steps
Now from here - let me tell what some of the next steps could look like.
...
What happens next is an in-person interview with one of the team leads. These are held at our warehouses and you can always ask a ton more questions there.
...
After that meeting, what we might offer is a trial. It’s a really awesome thing Everlight does, we get you in for 2 or so days of work so you can meet the crew and get a feel for what you’d be doing. That way we get to know you and you us before it’s all official.
After that we’ll talk about pay and when a start date would be - that all sound good?
Awesome. So, knowing that there is a whole other conversation, just want to ask you real quick - what QUESTIONS are TOP of your mind right now?
Great Question - that’s exactly what they’ll be going over with you in that next interview...
FAQ:
How long after the trial do I know if I start?
When do I get official apprentice hours?
How many hours... when do I start and end each day?
WHAT DOES IT MEAN “POTENTIAL” APPRENTICESHIP?
Sell The Fit Continued
We’re extremely picky. We interview over 400 people a week. And we hire less than 1% of them. We do that to protect our culture. We want people to continue to love working here.
We hire for values, for attitude... we look for people with grit and work ethic.
We have a core value, Adventurous. We leap headfirst into the chaos of rapid growth, with a positive attitude and a smile.
This is the hardest job I’ve ever had, but I love it. Do you think you could thrive in an environment like ours, or have I scared you off?
It seems like this role would help you step up and find your next level. So the question is, are you ready to put in the work it's going to take to get to the next level with us?
Challenge
I know there are some unknowns, and you'll have a whole other interview to ask more questions in, but let me ask you, as of right now, how sold are you on the company and the type of role we've been talking about? ...... Now I'm going to have you put it on a scale of 1-10?
Rebuttal if scheduling and under an 8...
What would get you to a 10?
...
Our supervising managers are really busy and we value their time. There are a bunch of candidates behind you who are ready and excited to dive in. So if you’re not all in on this opportunity, at least a 9 or a 10, I can move forward with other candidates. Does that sound best?
Goodbye
Excellent - thanks so much ___
I really appreciate you sharing so much about your life and where you are with me.
Thanks again for your time and attention
... alright you have an awesome day, ok!? Bye.
End Quickly
Awesome, I got call coming in now I need to jump on now -thank you so much for your time and attention, I'll make sure the rest of the recruitment team sees this and if they decide to go forward with you, someone will be in touch, sorry i need to run, you have a great day, ok?
thanks again, awesome, bye
