Our why

Accounting is stuck in the past
Some of our brightest graduates are burning out doing monotonous work and our most innovative startups are crying out for the skills accountants should, but can’t provide

It’s letting down accountants 😔

Most people are drawn to accounting because they’re not sure what else to do, and it has a good reputation for being a stable profession.
But whilst it was a stable and well paid job in the past, it’s not delivering for our generation.
Young accountants are one of the least happy groups in the workforce
The actual work is tedious and monotonous, leading to accountants having a reputation for being boring
We don’t want stability and prestige, we want variety, impact and progression

It’s letting down startups and scale-ups 😖

And it's not delivering for our most innovative businesses either. Startups are crying out for the skills that accountants should bring, but they're stuck with old fashioned firms with old ideas.
Accounting firms focus on tax, payroll and compliance. This is only the absolute minimum of what startups need.
Startups need help with complex data, automation and supporting their functional business teams. The training accountants do doesn’t provide this skill set and most firms aren’t able to help with it

Why is it like this? 🤷

The accountancy profession is controlled by a tiny number of massive firms and the partners that own them. They rose up through this system and it continues to generate outsize profits. They have no incentive to change.

What we’re proud of 💪

Every day we help frustrated accountants leave their corporate careers and give them the training and support to work with startups.
This provides the variety, impact and progression we craved; leading to more fulfilling careers.
At the same time we create ops experts. They build the foundations that allow the startups we support to grow; making the world a better place.

My story

The house party

When I first started in accounting I went to a house party near where I lived in Clapham
I got talking to a girl and we seemed to hit it off
But when I told her I was an accountant she lost interest, assuming I’d probably be boring
There’s something seriously wrong with a profession that’s created that reputation for itself

Joining PwC

I was really excited to join my grad scheme
But when I got to know the people a few years above me I realised they were totally burnt out
Their initial enthusiasm had been eroded to the point where all they wanted to talk about was where they’d quit to when they qualified
I kept a folder on my laptop of amusing leaving emails written by these people when they triumphantly left and revealed how much they’d hated the job
