Senior Frontend Engineer

We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer with a drive for component-based design to join our funded high-growth Silicon Valley startup (fully-remote 12-member core team, 80-member operations team).
Engineering is at the core of Pareto: you will work closely with our talented engineering team (based around the world) to build our next generation of architecture and software. You will report directly to our Head of Engineering, work closely with our Director of Operations (ex-Head of Ops at Amazon IMDB) and have a direct impact on our product strategy and business bottom line.
You’d be a fit at Pareto if:
You understand success comes from dedicated, rich, and honest teamwork. You value respect, and curiosity and are able to navigate communication in the context of cultural differences and cross-functional teamwork.
You strive for engineering excellence. In your past experiences, you have demonstrated a solid understanding of modern frontend technologies such as React, GraphQL, Relay, Storybook, and the patterns related to component-centric UI design. You know what it takes to consistently design pixel-perfect interfaces that are both responsive and easy to navigate. You are comfortable owning a project from inception to production while implementing best-in-class DevOps, quality, and testing practices.
You are not satisfied with the status quo and are always looking for better solutions to existing problems. You are ambitious to grow and like to share what you learn.
This role is a great fit for software engineers with 3+ years of frontend experience on medium to large projects, with experience in different aspects of software development, from architecture to collaborating with a design team and implementing a quality pipeline.

Responsibilities
Shepherd frontend systems from architecture and specifications to live deployments
Translate our product roadmap into features for our website, our internal applications, and our user dashboard.
Build reusable components and libraries using Storybook and Sass
Manage cloud resources, CI/CD, and testing infrastructure using Vercel, Storybook and Chromatic.
Build out well-tested, performant, and polished user experiences and applications using React, GraphQL, and Relay
Help create and maintain a best-in-class quality pipeline, from Linting to CI/CD and usability tests

What you’ll need
Ambition to drive and lead the development of frontend applications using React, Storybook, consistently testing and optimizing your code and delivering performant applications.
3+ yrs of experience working with enterprise frontend applications, and a deep understanding of modern javascript philosophy, patterns, strengths and weaknesses. You are comfortable advising for or against REST/GraphQL API patterns and have a track record of shipping high-quality products and features at scale.
2+ years of experience using React for making universal (”isomorphic”) applications. Relay is definitely a plus, as is Storybook, and knowledge of CSS preprocessors.
Experience using a bundler such as Webpack, and knowledge of how to optimize a build.
Understanding of the different patterns to manage session state on the frontend, and the involved security challenges.
Familiarity with product and design lifecycles & collaborating closely with designers and product managers.
Drive to understand end-users and customers before engaging in the specs of your project.
The ability to write high-quality, well-tested, and maintainable code — paying particular attention to Linting & CI/CD pipeline.
Familiarity with current trends and best practices in frontend architecture, including performance and security.
A willingness to embrace and provide feedback with respect and kindness.
Comfort setting your own goals in a fast-paced work environment.
Enthusiasm to do what it takes to succeed together.

Nice to have
Interest in mentoring and training team members on design techniques and coding standards
Collaborating on open source projects, or having build your own libraries.
Experience conducting UI and UX testing with end-users.
Experience managing teams of engineers
