We have an opportunity for an outstanding data engineer to develop and execute Pana’s vision for how we manage the data that is the lifeblood of our suite of products. As we're an early-stage company, this engineer has the unique opportunity to to have a massive impact across the business, from product to marketing to sales.
You will begin by owning our existing data and reporting tooling including Segment.com, Singer, dbt (data build tool), Periscope Data, and Postgres. In those tools you’ll be creating and updating ETL pipelines, creating reference data sets, and adding and maintaining customer-facing and internal reports.
Meanwhile, you’ll formulate a vision for the future of how Pana deals with data and a plan for how to achieve that vision. Which of our current tools should we continue to build around and which should be deprecated? What are our strategies for data management? How do we think about event sourcing? When do we need a data lake and how do we build it? How and when do we do batch and streaming analytics?
While your primary role will be to architect, code, test, and ship data products, you will also be involved in brainstorming, designing, and evolving the customer-facing product. You will get a chance to understand the core problems that we're solving at Pana, allowing you to better serve the user in your execution of our product strategy.
Finally, as a senior member of our engineering team, you’ll also be expected to demonstrate leadership in a key area of expertise and skill. Growth paths for this position include both individual contributor and management options.
In return, we offer full benefits, unlimited vacation time, a competitive salary, stock options, and a chance to change the face of travel.
What We Value
You understand that accurate, discoverable, and timely access to data is critical to every role in a business. You are passionate about quipping stakeholders with the information they need to make decisions, whether they’re in Product, Engineering, Operations, Sales, or Marketing.
You enjoy speaking about travel, food and life. When writing you are both eloquent and informative. In person, you are articulate about your perspective, feelings, and opinions.
You are empathetic and helpful.
You voluntarily step up when others are struggling, even if the problem is not in your area of expertise. “Patience” is your middle name. You are happy when you have made others succeed.
You are a stickler for minor grammatical errors—seeing comma splice errors in print makes you cringe, and you are never satisfied with a first draft.
You can use Google to learn anything and everything except for rocket science and brain surgery. You don’t need to be an official “travel agent,” nor do you have to have past experience working in the travel industry, but you are curious and willing to learn.
