Here are some things we would recommend based on what you’re describing:
Try clearing both your AE and Element cache. To do that in Element, go into your Scene Setup, click File, Preferences, and then clear those 2 cache buttons. To clear the AE cache, go Edit—Purge—All Memory.
Turn off Speculative Preview in AE. To do that, go to COMPOSITION > PREVIEW and uncheck the CACHE FRAMES WHEN IDLE setting. This is highly recommended.
