Sprayed some on from my decant I made in January to take to Europe. Got the same sugar water smell then jumped on the train from Harlem down to Soho for work. Started to get tiny hints of the perfume on the train and can confirm, sitting in my desk, that I smell both the perfume and the sugar water. It’s as if the anosmia is slowly fading.
I couldn’t smell Molecule 01 at all when I first got it and managed to get there over time via exposure. This has taken years (and possibly maceration/ageing in the spray bottle?) but I’m getting there. That bottle also used to have something like Terre d’Hermès in it (I’ll verify when I get home), not sure if that plays any role whatsoever. Excited to have a bottle that won’t just go to waste!
I had a slightly different experience with Tonic Vert—I’ve always been able to perceive it, but not that well. There was a day I was brunching in Montreal wearing it and our server gave me a huge compliment “sir, you smell amazing!” while I could just barely notice it. I then wore it as one of my two summer fragrances in 2022, at which point I got to know it quite well. I’ll bust it out again this year to see what’s what.
One more thing: I’m not 100% sure this is a decant from the current bottle I have. I took a tiny decant of the first bottle I sent back to Fragrancebuy and it’s possible that’s what’s on my wrist today. Either way, it’s not the Luckyscent sample, which gives me hope.
Oh! It’s allergy season! Wonder if slight congestion is (ironically) helping? My memory from the Baccarat Rouge thread is basically it overpowers your olfactory system...
