Have a question about the Unpitch series or how to make the most of your experience? Check out our frequently asked questions and email platform@newenglandvc.org with anything you don't see listed.
Do I have to pay to attend as a startup?
No! Unpitch is free for the entrepreneurs, and lunch is provided by the participating investors.
What would be the value of attending Unpitch as a startup?
Unpitch is not about delivering elevator pitches onstage or trying to grab a few seconds with a venture capitalist in a conference hallway. Instead, they provide a unique opportunity to have a casual, no-pressure lunch with investors. It gives early stage startup founders the chance to discuss business plans, get critical feedback, and make meaningful connections in their industry.
If selected, how am I matched with investors?
The NEVCA team reviews your application thoroughly to hand-select your investor matches for the event. You're matched based on subindustry, product specifications, and participating firms' investment focus and expertise.
I've been selected! How do I best prepare for the event?
Your participation includes two 30-minute meetings with one investor and one other startup (2:1). You are encouraged to review your matches, both investors and startups, which will be emailed about a week before the event. Come prepared to deliver a quick overview of your startup (remember – no formal pitches) to introduce the investor to your business. You can also maximize your time in the meetings by preparing a list of questions or topics you want to cover.
Can I attend with my team?
Due to the nature of the Unpitch, each participating startup can only have one representative join. No exceptions.
I've received prior funding. Can I still apply to Unpitch?
Absolutely! You are welcome to apply with prior funding, involvement in accelerators, and more extensive business development. Unpitch is meant for the early stage entrepreneur, but all applications will be reviewed.
Do I need to live in Boston/Providence to apply or participate?
You don't have to live in Boston or Providence to apply, but you do have to be able to get here on the date of the event. And there are no age limits on applying.
What is the "Unpitch" format?
You'll be eating lunch with one investor and 1-2 other entrepreneurs. Know that you'll be sharing time with others, and you'll need to be comfortable discussing your idea in front of your peers. There will be networking time before and after lunch for any one-on-ones you hope to have with specific investors.
How do I keep up-to-date on Unpitch events?
We recommend staying posted via our newsletter (https://newenglandvc.org/newsletter/) and our socials and the #Unpitch tag. After you submit your application, our team will keep you updated on your status and any new details.
