This is the guideline to follow for determining the computer build that meets customer needs:
expand and collapse the arrows on the left below to explore the guideline
Note: This guideline isn’t an exact step by step process that must be followed, but helpfully suggests for the computer builder on ways to approach customer service and computer assembly.
Note : This guideline can only be edit by the computer builder and selected employees.
First ask the customer their needs and wants for determining the computer build style.
Bring up to the customer the different types of PCs that might meet their needs and wants.
Should the build be a gaming PC, workstation PC, content creator PC, or custom PC?
List and discuss to the customer the Monitor brands and sizes depending on the computer build.
Customer brands may include Samsung, Acer, Asus, etc.
provide the sizes available for those brands and their specifications.
Determine if the customer requires portable computer build. If not, skip this step.
Will the portable device be a laptop, handheld, subnotebook, etc.?
What structure type should the portable device be based on the environment?
Should it be standard, rugged, water resistant, impact resistant, etc.?
After speaking with the customer, the next step should be to determine the PC specifications before final assembly.
Determine the mother board needed. If choosing the CPU first, come back to this section right afterwards.
First choose the type of mother board needed for the client’s computer
Choices may include a Mini TX, Micro TX, ATX, Extended, BTX, LPX, etc.
Then choose the brand
Choices may include Asus, Gigabyte, NZXT, etc.
Determine the CPU needed. If choosing the mother board first, come back to this section right afterwards.
First, choose the design type of CPU needed for the client’s computer.
Choices may include a General, Mobile, Server, Embedded, GPU, APU, High-Performance, Work Station, etc.
Second, choose the processing type of CPU needed for the client’s computer.
Will it be a single core CPU, Dual Core CPU, or Quad Core CPU
Third, choose the brand
Choices may include Intel, AMD, etc.
Lastly, determine an idea of the of the type of settings you need on the CPU
Determine the clock speed, Mode (user VS kernel), core voltage, cache/ring ratio, cache/voltage ratio, allocation (request processing VS always allocated).
These ideas can be adjusted after assembly.
Determine the PC case needed for the client’s computer.
Choices may include a full tower, mini tower, desktop, small form factor (SFF), ultra small form factor (USFF), all in one PC (AiO), etc.
Determine what RAM that is needed for the client’s computer.
Choose the RAM type needed for the client’s computer
Choices may include SRAM, DRAM, SCC
When choosing the RAM type, also consider the Data Rate of the choice (e.g. SDRAM or DDR)
Determine the storage Device needed for the client’s computer.
Choices may include a Hard Disk Drive (HDD). Solid State Drive (SSD), cloud based storage, a hybrid storage, etc.
Determine the Operating System needed for the client’s computer
Choose the Operating System type
Choices may include Multi-processor OS, Multi-programming OS, Distributed OS, Multitasking OS, Time-sharing OS, Client/server network OS, Batch OS, etc.
Choose the Operating System brand
Choices may include Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, Unix, etc.
Determine the other components needed for the client's computer
Components can include the Video Card, Sound Card, Power Supply Unit, Cooling System, DVD Drive, keyboard, mouse, sound system, etc.
