Two part “digital storytelling and the earth” retreat invitation!
Join us on March 9th, 2024 in sharing stories of your connection to and care for the Earth, and then, if you remain interested on March 16th to learn how to record and share your stories in digital format.
Prof. Mary Hess, of Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN has invited us to participate in her sabbatical research project.
Her concern for the environment combined with her decades of work in digital storytelling as a form of faith formation has resulted in this project, in which she is helping people learn how to tell their own stories of relationship with Creation, listen to each others’ stories, and then record and share these stories digitally.
This is a project oriented not at “changing people’s minds” but rather at “softening their hearts” in the midst of widespread polarization around caring for Creation.
You don’t need to have any skill with either telling stories, or using digital tech, but we do need you to bring your own device (smart phone, tablet, or laptop) and a desire to share a story from your own experience and to listen to others.
We will gather on the morning of March 9th (9 am to noon), to participate in a series of exercises aimed at learning how to tell one’s own story, and listen to others’ stories. If you remain interested, we will reconvene on March 16th (also from 9 am to noon) to learn how to record a story on your own device, and then add images, music, etc. to it (as you desire).
There is no cost for either or both of these workshops, and you do not need to know how to use digital tech in advance. You only need to be willng to learn!
