Maintaining a competitive advantage while using information systems

Implementing new technologies not only helps businesses make strategic decisions but also helps them improve and automate business processes, increase productivity, and improve inventory management.
Information systems are essential for an organization’s competitiveness.
They help provide the necessary information companies need to differentiate their services and products from those offered by their competitors

Aligning IT with Business Objectives

One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is implementing technology solutions that do not align with the business objectives of the company.
Business sometimes realize that the IT solution purchased is not being fully utilized and some features are not even needed.
Before deciding on what the IT system to use, think about these 3 questions:
What is the structure of the industry in which the business is located?
What are the business, firm, and industry value chains for this business?
Has IT aligned with the business strategy goals?

Strategic Information Systems often change the following:
Products
Services
Operating Procedures
