Halloween Mummy berry Homemade pies

Tools:
small or medium sized pot
wooden spoon
potato masher
tablespoon
teaspoon
cup
cutting board
sharp knife or pizza cutter
a fork
baking paper or cooking spray
baking tray
rolling pin

Berry Compote Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups frozen mixed berries
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract/essence

Notes
Cook 2 cups of frozen berries and 2 tablespoons of honey over medium heat until fully heated
Mash with a stirring spoon or potato masher when it's cooked
Turn down the heat and continue cooking until liquid has reduced by half
Stir in vanilla extract/essence and turn off the heat

Halloween Mummy berry Homemade pies

Ingredients
500g ready-made puff pastry sheets - thawed (if you can get flat sheets, I recommend you do)
1 cup berry compote (we will make this before)
1 egg, beaten
white fondant
¼ cup corn starch (for dusting)
black or brown food colouring

Notes
Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF
Lay one sheet of pastry on the board
Using a pizza cutter/large knife, slice the puff pastry sheet into thin strips then set aside
Cut the other sheet of puff pastry into 6 equal rectangles
Place the pastry rectangles onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper
Place 1-2 tablespoons of berry compote in the centre of each rectangle, then brush the edges with egg
Layer a few strips over the jam, making sure to leave space for the googly eyes (if using)
Crimp the edges of the pie with a fork, then brush the tops with beaten egg
Place in the oven and allow to bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown
Remove, allow to cool to room temperature and serve
